Moneda Moves (159): Meet the Founders x Funders Creating the Future of Food
Mi gente, I have good news for you. We know Latinos are an entrepreneurial force in the US economy, contributing more than $800 billion to the nation’s economy across more than five million businesses. That’s why we are doubling down our focus on founders x funders in our upcoming season of Moneda Moves.
🚀A new season of Moneda Moves launches this August. The focus? Latinos and BIPOC founders building the future of the food business from food tech to consumer packaged goods. We pre-launched with our first live recording just last week in Chicago and have the highlights for you today here, with the full recording coming on our next episode drop.
Food makes the world go round. But it’s also a great business proposition. Last year, VCs invested more than $20 billion in the space even after economic conditions tightened.
To kick off our upcoming season featuring diverse founders building the future of food tech and consumer packaged goods, Moneda Moves is bringing funders investing in the future of the food x tech industry and founders paving the way for an intimate conversation on how they invest, fundraise and think about building truly scalable companies.
A few takeaways from our live recording:
🎙️ Investors invest in people who they believe can grow companies. Decks matter, but cultivating relationships is paramount.
🎙️ Food tech presents a great opportunity to tackle some of the world’s most pressing sustainability issues
🎙️ Consumer packaged goods gives the world access to travel with their taste buds and had an increase in interest during the pandemic.
🎙️ Venture investing in food tech and CPG companies was nearly double ($40B) in 2021 as in 2022.
🎙️ Venture capital is for companies that are ready to take on investors, who do seek returns.
And our recording guests:
✨ Shayna Harris at Supply Change Capital, a VC firm, which invests in high growth early stage food tech business and culture first brands through a planned $40M fund
✨ Perteet Spencer, founder at West African frozen food product producer AYO Foods
✨ Michelle Ruiz, founder at tech and bio manufacturing company Hyfé, using nutrients in wastewater to create essential goods
