Moneda Moves (133): Meet The Team Onboarding 1M Latinos to Web3
Mi gente, I’m so excited to share the latest episode of Moneda Moves. As I saw investment in Web3 soar in 2022, I couldn’t help but wonder how diverse communities like ours could benefit and get our own piece of the pie in this blockchain-based web. Enter Web3 Familia, which I met at an educational event in Chicago and is on a mission to onboard one million Latinos to Web3 through education and connecting entrepreneurs and creatives in the community.
The latest episode of Moneda Moves features Web3 Familia, a nonprofit DAO activating across the country to educate, onboard and connect the Latinx community in the Web3 space.
We spoke with Orlando Gomez and Magdalena Madrigal, two co-founders of Web3 Familia, a decentralized autonomous organization. And that’s a mouthful, so just a bit on what a DAO is: It’s an organization run by rules encoded as a transparent computer program. It’s controlled by the organization’s members versus, say, a central government or a hierarchical structure. No managers are needed, and the idea is that this would eliminate bureaucracy and red tape, thus truly making it a project with shared ownership by the community.
And that’s a word you’ll want to listen for in this interview: Community. Web3 believes heavily in this and that when you leverage community plus the power of blockchain technology, we can really reimagine the way organizations work.
In this episode, we are speaking with Web3 Familia about how they are onboarding one million Latinos across the country to Web3 and the opportunity they see in this space, not only for Latinos but anyone who wants to get involved. We also discuss how their DAO is run, opportunities for growth in the space and how Web3 can benefit creatives. Please take a listen and if you like what you hear, please leave a review.
Con poder,

Givepact Is the DAO Bringing Charity To Web3: Nonprofits are always in need of donations, and in need of a regular influx of cash in order to operate. But what if they didn’t have to rely on cash? We spoke with nonprofit experts and founders of Givepact Alicia Cepeda Maule and Steven Aguiar to talk about how they’re creating an ecosystem to onboard nonprofits to Web3 and how this could quite literally multiply donations to their causes. For reference, in 2021, crypto donations to nonprofits came in at more than $300 million dollars, a huge increase from the $28 million in donations that were received in 2020. Google’s Latino Founders Fund Awards Entrepreneurs: Just last month, Google committed to providing select Latino entrepreneurs with $100,000 cash prizes. As a Chicagoan, I was filled with pride to see five entrepreneurs awarded in the Chicago area, but Latinos awarded spanned diverse backgrounds and industry concentration and included Tanya Menendez, CEO and Co-Founder of Snowball Wealth who Moneda Moves previously collaborated with. Note: Disclosing that I am a full-time employee at Google, and noting their work here with a different department, Google for Startups.
